Here's a tip about Jim Beam Rye
Spoke with my soon to be ex personal trainer about which booze is best while trying to loose weight. He gave whiskey and vodka the big stink eye. "Rye is ok", he said. Thus- I brought home some yumminess up there.
Then, I had a really busy day serving humanity and couldn't make it out for lunch. THEN I thought to myself, well, I have extra Weight Watchers Points, why not skip dinner and have a cocktail? So I had myself two helpings.
That's not a good idea.
So, I've decided that Jim Beam Rye needs to be paired with something. It's a strong, rye bread tasting liquor. It's not meant to be flied solo.
Any suggestions?

but wait, now that I read the label, RYE is Whiskey!!!
ReplyDeletestupid trainer!
Yeah, Rye is a whiskey. It's just made with at least a 51% rye mash. Just like Bourbon needs at least 51% corn.
ReplyDeleteA classic and great cocktail you can make with Rye is a Manhattan. Shake 3 parts Rye with 1 part Sweet Vermouth and a dash or three of bitters. Ice, of course. Strain it into a martini glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry. Yummy!
A simpler drink would be to just mix it with some ginger ale or ginger beer if you can find it. Rye and Ginger. Great drink.
Look up the recipe for a Sazerac. There are some who claim that it is the original cocktail...the very first of its kind. It's got all kind of yummy going on. Rye, absinth, sugar, a couple of kinds of bitters, a lemon peel. Yum!
Although I am not a whiskey guy (I do have it once in a while), I believe you could pair it with fruit juices. The kind you get in cartons & bottles - apple juice perhaps.
